Instagram’s 2025 update: What’s really new?

Introduction:

Finally, the Instagram app on the iPad.

People have waited years, and now it’s real: Instagram finally has a proper app for the iPad. The inflated phone version will have to be discarded. It all now looks clearer, fills the screen, and has all the same features you’re familiar with, scrolling through photos, viewing reels, chatting with friends, and you have more space to work with.

Reels are a bigger deal than ever before

Short videos called Reels are now at the heart of the Instagram app. You can create reels up to 20 minutes long, which is more space to tell stories, give tutorials, or see what can be created. It is also very easy to edit this video. It also has a tool called New Backgrounds, Effects, and Styles which is an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that lets you change the background or lighting with just the press of a button.

The new insights show you how long people have been watching your reels and where they’re going, so you can improve and really stick to your message.

Features of sharing and community friends.

Instagram has made it easy to keep in touch with your friends. Now there’s a “Friends” tab for Reels – which shows what your friends are liking, sharing, or commenting on, all in one place. You can also share other people’s reels or posts with your followers using the new “Repost” feature, so that great content can get more love and spread more.

It also has a new friend map, where you can share your location with select people, or you can choose to turn it off completely. It’s good to check out what’s happening in your neighborhood and what’s fun in your local area, or just to connect safely.

Your photos are even more attractive – exotic crops.

Instagram now accepts 3:4 vertical photos – the natural size of your phone. Your photos occupy a larger portion of the screen and appear much cleaner, especially when you’re just displaying products, travel photos, food, or art. They don’t have to be cut and edited, just post and go.

Less complex communication, simpler profiles.

Now you can schedule direct messages, manage all of your Instagram chats from a computer, and pin key conversations to the top of your inbox. DMs and stickers can also be translated and in this way you can communicate with friends from all over the world regardless of language.

Your profile on the Internet was also updated. Now you can push posts around your grid to make it cooler and more organized, and stories have their own section of highlights because it’s always easier to find the best moments now.

Editing and creative tools for everyone.

The original app, called Edits, now provides everyone with easy access to professional video effects, including: adding overlays, and adjusting the daylight layer, pulling and rearranging clips, and presets that put the mood anywhere you want. It’s not hard, and no one needs to be a video expert.

Safer and more efficient controls.

Block people from mentioning you in their bio, choose who can see your sharing activity, and even work as a team on your Instagram account – don’t share passwords with your coworkers or agency anymore.

Merging story and reel (soon)

Instagram is working on merging Stories and Reels in one place, so that you can watch every moment and video in one place. This will simplify the process of keeping up with what each person is posting, no longer being a process of switching between tabs.

Move on from Instagram – Google gets involved

The biggest update behind the scenes: public posts, reels, and carousels can now appear in Google searches. Then, as a business or creator, or simply someone who enjoys sharing, your Instagram content can be viewed by a wide range of people, including people who aren’t on Instagram.
